2005-2006
6/25/06 - Goodbye!  The Class of 2006 graduated this afternoon and another group of amazing students seeks their fortunes and their futures out in the real world.  The ceremony featured speeches from Hand Stumpf, Brandon Titus and invited guest Doug Nemier.  Several thousands of dollars worth of scholarships were awarded and recognition was paid to the students for their achievements.  For many the highlight was the slideshow assembled by Ms. Pickering as a surprise to her graduating senior class.  The weather was great, the speeches fun and inspiring and the memories made will last a lifetime.  Goodbye!

6/13/06 - Over 100 students graduated from their programs at the North Franklin Educational Center this morning including a few of our CCS stars.  Lucas Downer, Cory Helm, Bruce Leavitt, Daniel Perham, Donald Shatlaw, Shantelle Vermette and Brad Wright were among those recognized this morning.  Dan Perham was presented with an Apple Award for have this highest average in the Career & Technical Program; Donald Shatlaw received the Farrar Home Award for his efforts in work study at the home; Lucas Downer was awarded the most skilled in the Trade for Auto technology;  Cory Helm was singled out for Professional Excellence in Auto Technology; Shantelle Vermette was recognized in the Health Occupations field in an Attitude Award.  Our very own Mr. Breault was the special guest speaker for the event and Mrs. Trombly took the great pictures.  Congratulations to all the students.  Pictures
6/12/06 - I nearly forgot to post these pictures Mrs. Trombley took at the Great Escape trip featuring the Jazz band and Half Past Seven groups. You can see Miss Peryea talking to a puppet.  I think it was trying to ask her out.  Pictures 6/12/06 - Mr. Champagne recently took a few pictures from the Academic Awards banquet held in Lake Placid.  A number of CCS students were honored at the annual event and the Jazz Band provided the music.  Thanks Mr. Champagne.  Pictures
6/9/06 - For the second year in a row we were all honored with the presence of an exchange student.  This year Max Geissler was a part of the CCS student body.  On Friday many students and staff said goodbye at a party in Mrs. Gardiner's room.  He will be missed by all.  He will soon be back home in Berlin attending some World Cup soccer action.  Pictures 6/9/06 - The freshman class sponsored a carnival recently.  The event featured a number of games and activities for the elementary students.  The participants could win prizes, buy food and hit people in the face with pies. As can be seen in the photos a great time was had by all. Many different students took come pictures and I left nearly all of them.  Warning, there are over 150 images in this file.  Pictures
6/7/06 - Did you ever have one of those moments when you realize you are going to miss someone?  It happened tonight as I watched Mr. Rundell give a speech at the Academic Awards night.  His eloquent words reminded everyone in attendance that we are going to lose a man who cared deeply for his work and his students.  He challenged the students to live up to their promise and to live in the world before deciding to settle down.  After completing his comments he stepped down from the stage to a round of applause and a well deserved standing ovation.  I was going to comment about his 36 years of experience being my age, but I decided against it.  As is customary, many students were honored for their academic achievement including 13 seniors who were honored for 16 consecutive honor roll appearances.  Congratulations to all the students for their hard work.  Pictures
5/30/06 - If it is Memorial Day then it is time for a parade.  The CCS Marching Band once again provided the music for the Chateaugay and Malone parades and ceremonies.  They performed well in the rain Saturday and humid weather Monday.  They were well received by both crowds.  Well done! Pictures 5/25/06 - Mrs. Gratto's 8th grade science classes spent two days learning about the solar system with a special guest. Mr. Rieger, an Amateur Astronomer, provided two days of activities about our awesome solar system. Did you know that our solar system is about 5 billion years old? Pictures (by Mrs. Gratto)
5/22/06 - Another road trip for Mr. Rundell.  This time he accompanied a number of students on a whale watching trip. The students went to Massachusetts over the weekend for some fun on the surf.  Mr. Rundell said that he had to drive through some of the worst rain he could remember.  He did bring us back some beautiful pictures though.  Pictures 5/18/06 - I just received another batch of pictures from the senior trip.  This time they come from Donald Shatlaw.  He took some great shots of the scenery, architecture, animals and much more.  Thanks.  Pictures

And some more from Derek Healey...pictures

5/18/06 - On May 16th students from CCS participated in an annual science competition known as the Envirothon.  They participate in a number of challenges under the watchful eye of other science teachers and members of the DEC.  The students did very well in many of the events.  Sierra Filion took the camera and she and others took many fun pictures from the day.  Pictures
5/16/06 - Many of you have been asking me for the senior play pictures.  I am not sure what happened to the link but I did find the pictures.  You can get them HERE.
5/15/06 - "The student council would like to thank everyone that helped us raise money with the Box Tops for Education throughout this year. We raised over $600 for our school.  This money is the only fundraiser and is used for all the special things we do during the year.  We will be having a contest in the fall so please remember to CLIP AND SAVE over the summer.  Thanks" - Mrs. Johnston, advisor seniortripcafe.jpg (65535 bytes)5/11/06 - Mr. Harrica gave me this picture to scan from the trip.  The students were gathered at the Hard rock Cafe.  Click to enlarge the picture.  If you have any more pictures from the trip you would like to share please get them to me.  Some people have asked if I could put them all onto one CD.  I may be willing to do that once I get them all.
5/8/06 - What do you get when you cross French class with Mrs. Gardiner's room?  Great smells and wonderful food.  Mrs. Swanston's French class made a number of items for an afternoon feast.  As can be seen in the photos, the food looks great.  My only concern is if Mt. Dew is a French delicacy.  Great job.  Pictures
5/8/06 - Senior trip photos are here. I have already received a bunch of pictures from Derek Healey and Erin Conners from the annual New York City and Washington D.C. trip.  I suspect I will have more to add and perhaps I can even get Derek to add some stories as well.  Derek's Pics - Erin's Pics - More Pics from Derek - Kristi LaBare's Pics
4/30/06 - Members of the Environmental Club A.L.I.V.E. and other students who could wield a shovel worked with Mr. Rundell planting trees Friday afternoon.  They planted 50 trees along the roadside near the school.  It was a great afternoon for the project.  Thanks to Sierra Filion and Lisa Pratt for grabbing the camera and recording the work.  Pictures
4/29/06 - The Second Annual Chateaugay Idol contest was another success Friday night. Over a dozen acts competed for the title and three were selected by the judges.  Kayla Ignaczak, Maggie Hanover and Rachel Shutts were the top three acts.  The audience voted for their favorite and Kayla was this year's winner.  As can be seen from the pictures there was a wide range of acts.  Mr. Walrath would like to thank all who gave of their time to help make the night such a successful fund raising event for the Class of 2007.  Congratulations to all the contestants.  Pictures.
4/21/06 - I guess it takes a lot of swimming, some pizza, some late night junk food topped off with some juice to make these guys kick into overdrive.  So far tonight we've tuned a "guitar", made something float in a mason jar, fudged a few graphs, bugged the guy at the main desk a thousand times and I think we even accomplished the impossible....we made Mrs. Gratto tired enough to stop talking (almost).  Here are pictures of "some" of the mad scientists at work.  Pictures
4/21/06 - So what would you do after driving for over 6 hours to a science Olympiad?  Do an experiment?  Maybe try out some geeky looking goggles or something?  Maybe engage a fellow nerd in a passionate discussion about bottle rocketry?  No.  Instead I guess you head to the mall for some food and shopping followed by a dip in the pool and hot tub.  I did not know this.  Actually, the students were able to register their projects and had a chance to see the college before they begin working in earnest tomorrow.  I will have some pictures from their day when I get home.  For now...it's pool time.  Pictures

4/7/06 - Pottery projects part 2...the sequel.  The projects get their final touches.  Pictures

4/6/06 - Mrs. Hoy was at CCS recently working with Mr. Walrath's 8th grade English class on a pottery demonstration as part of an activity funded by a grant Mrs. Stumpf helped secure.  The demonstration tied into a book the 8th grade students are reading.  Mrs. Gratto also assisted with the project.  In fact, some of the students still have a ringing sound in their ears.  Mr. Walrath took some great shots of the action.  Pictures

3/31/06 - Students in Mr. Miller's OAS class put on their annual Book Fair this afternoon.  The students read a book spotlighting an event in history and set up an informational booth.  Students were able to view each booth and hear about the contents of the book and it's effects on history and culture.  Of course candy and cookies are always a good way to entice visitors and there was plenty of candy to be had.  Pictures

3/24/06 - As part of Music in Our Schools Month students were able to compete in a poster contest.  There were over 100 entries and all received a prize.  There were 8 special awards for the best posters.  Those winners include: Kayle Doyle, Erika LaBombard, Marci Wood, Katelyn Magnan, Alexis Manor, Katelyn Legacy, Ben Leach, Kelly Gibson, and Cheyenne Hess.  Here are a few pictures of the wonderful posters.
freethrow.jpg (37227 bytes)3/20/06 - Michael Boyea and Courtney Boyea traveled to Syracuse on Saturday, March 18th to participate in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Shoot-Out .  Each of them won their age group and will continue on to West Point April 1st for the state finals.  Congratulations and good luck to both!

3/23/06 - More pictures from the Animal Shelter.  Again this past weekend students from CCS took part in their latest project by helping out at the animal shelter.  The facility was full which means 60 dogs were able to go for a walk.  Here are some more great pictures from the weekend.
3/14/06 - On March 11, 2006 students from CCS volunteered at the North Country Animal Shelter.  They helped clean out cages and walked some of the dogs.  They will be helping out over the next few weekends as well.  If you would like to help out talk to Mrs. Pitcher-Boyea.  Here are some pictures from March 11. langer.jpg (34584 bytes)3/14/06 - We have not had a caption contest in a while and I found this picture and thought that it is time.  Keep them clean and funny and I will post the best ones.  I think I will even kick in a prize for the best entry.  Click on the photo to enlarge.  You can click HERE to submit an entry.
3/13/06 - "Do Something" is launching a new project from now until April 5th. The focus this month is helping the North Country Animal Shelter. We will be hosting a food/blanket drive for animals at the shelter.  Other items to donate include: dog / cat food-dry, treats for dogs or cats, toys, old clean blankets or towels, leashes, or litter.  Please bring items to your homeroom.  The class that collects the most items will be rewarded with a pizza party.  Thank you for your participation and good luck!  Dog-walkers are also needed on Saturdays . See Mrs. Pitcher-Boyea if you are interested. 3/7/06 - Mrs. Gratto and Mrs. Harrigan took 14 CCS students to a special science competition in Potsdam.  The Science Olympiad featured students from 6 area schools. They all participated in a number of activities in front of judges.  Points were awarded based on established criteria.  The CCS students placed 2nd and missed winning the even by a single point.  But by placing 2nd they earn a chance to go on to the state competition in April.  Congratulations students and coaches and good luck at states and thanks you to Mrs. Gratto for bringing along the camera for pictures.  Pictures

3/3/06 - While students in 7-12 were busy with the color wars, students in grades 4-6 were hitting the slopes at Titus Mountain for the annual Elementary Ski day.  Many students in grades 9-12 went along for the ride to help teach the younger students.  The day was bright and sunny, but very cold however that did not damped the spirits of all involved.  Thank you to Mrs. Parmeter for the pictures.  Pictures 3/4/06 - The gym was rocking Friday afternoon for the "Color Wars".  The students in grades 7-12 faced off in a number of games and activities, from the classics Musical Chairs to the popular CCS competition Knock Out.  Although there were grumblings about the scoring and some of the judging, the Seniors (decked out in black) were the winners by a slim margin over the junior class.  Pictures
2/17/06 - This week the members of the "Do Something" group launched their first project, a tutoring service for elementary students in grades 3-6.  The tutoring center is open 10th periods Monday-Thursday.  Mondays and Tuesdays are reserved for students in grades 3 & 4.  Wednesdays and Thursdays are reserved for students in grades 5 & 6.  .  If you are an elementary student and you would like to be tutored, please sign up with your classroom teacher.  If you are a high school student interested in tutoring, please see Mrs. Pitcher-Boyea in the high school - Room 201.  Thank you to all the high school tutors that have volunteered their time this week.  Pictures 2/6/06- Many students and chaperones spent a wonderful weekend at Smuggler's Notch and we have the pictures to prove it.  The chaperones want to thank all the students for their exceptional behavior and once again giving us all a reason to be proud.  Kristen Walton brought a camera along and has many great images to share.  If you also have some pictures you want to share get them to Mr. Trombley.  Pictures.
12/29/05 - Pictures Needed - This year we will be producing al all color yearbook.  This means that there are few items we need.  If anyone has pictures from last year's spring sports teams (baseball, softball and volleyball) please get them to Mr. Trombley as soon as possible.  We especially need team photos.  All we have right now are black and white photos.  Please check your files so we can make sure all the teams are included.  Thank you! 1/6/06 - CCS said goodbye to Kobi (not his given name but I cannot spell his given name)  Mrs. Harrigan threw a party in Mrs. Gardiner's room and we have the pictures to prove it.  Kobi will be sorely missed.  Mr. Healey told me there were corn dogs....and where was I?  Enjoy the photos.
12/22/05 - Ryan and Zech Peck worked with Mr. Walley restoring a Cutter Sleigh with Canopy as a Christmas gift for a family member.  Mr. Walley took a few pictures of their work.  They did an incredible job.  Pictures.  12/21/05 - This year's Student Council sponsored door decorating contest was won by Mr. Miller.  It has to be seen to be believed.  Other winners include Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Deans and Mr. Trombley.  All the doors looked great this year and the judges said they had a hard time deciding. Although I think the cookies from the Grinch swayed things a bit.  Happy Holidays to all. Pictures
12/12/05 - Mrs. Stumpf brought in a few pictures from various events.  Most of the images are from the Ecumenical concert held in Malone last night.  Many CCS students participated in the annual event.  Also included in the photos are some bell ringers and a collection of coats that were collected for those who need them when winter sets in.  Thanks to Mrs. Stumpf for the photos.  Pictures 12/12/05 - check.jpg (21130 bytes)Mrs. Stumpf provided this picture of her accepting a check from the Chateaugay Correctional Facility.  The money was raised by the Make-A-Difference lunches sold a few weeks ago.  Over $700 was raised.  The money goes toward providing a hand to those students at CCS who need it.  Click on the picture to enlarge it.
12/8/05 - Eric Bomyea, Derek Healey and Erin Conners spend a few days in the nation's capital as part of an OAS experience. They brought along a camera or two to document the trip which started around 4:00 AM.  They were able to see many of the nation's buildings and attractions, enjoyed the experiences and made many great friends.  They even had a chance to celebrate Derek's 18th birthday.  There are 2 batches of photos, one from Erin and Eric and some from Derek.  Enjoy! 11/30/05 - Barbie Johnston and Kristen Manor got a chance to grab some cash this afternoon.  They were the top sellers for the senior class in the magazine sales drive held earlier this year.  Mr. Pickering took a few shots of the girls in the money tent and also of other students earning prizes based on their sales figures.  She would like to thank all the students who sold magazines and everyone who supported the senior class by buying the magazines.  The money raised will go toward the cost of the senior trip.  Now, about those monkeys....Pictures
11/17/05 - Book Sales.  Friendly Honor Society Chaperones.  Student work on the walls.  Business Club sales.  It must be the annual Spaghetti Supper and Open House.  Many community members are already lined up in the hall for dinner as I write this update and the parking lot is nearly full and it is not even 5:00 PM yet.  The annual fundraiser provides money for scholarships and is one the most attended events of the year.  If you are reading this. well... you should be at the school.  More updates later. Pictures Sorry - no more updates - there were many parents in attendance and I did not get a chance to tame more pictures.   11/8/05 - I am not sure what an Inishmaan is, but the seniors all tell me it is a great play.  The senior class went to SUNY Plattsburgh recently to see "The Cripple of Inishmaan". Inashmaan, one of three Aran Islands, lies off the west coast of Ireland. The play was written by Martin McDonagh nearly a century ago about the people of the remote island.  A film was also made about the island entitled "Man of Aran".  The camera went along with the students (unfortunately pictures were not allowed during the presentation.)  Pictures
10/31/05 - Eric Bomyea was this year's costume contest winner.  It was a great contest and it featured many great costumes and skits.  All the participants did well.  Other winners include Erin Conners with Brandon Titus, Lauren LaBare and Katie Hamelin and the Scooby Gang (my personal favorite).  Pictures 10/22/05 - Bottle Drive - to benefit the CCS Boys Varsity basketball team - Saturday, October 22 from 9:00AM-1:00PM at the Chateaugay Fire Station.  Bottles may be dropped off at the fire station or at the following locations prior to the bottle drive:  the homes of Wally and Tammy Dumont of Ron and Helen Boyea.  Bottles can also be picked up at your home.  Please call 497-3293 of 497-6842 or see any varsity basketball player.  Thank you for your support!
10/18/05 - (From Mrs. Swanston)
The Arts Fair (or Fete des Arts) was a success! Mrs. Swanston's French IV students were able to, through performances on video or in person, provide a sampling of French influences in music, cinema and dance. Thank you so much for attending and sampling de la tartine and du cafe...pictures. - Thanks to Mrs. Swanston for highlighting the great work I students do in class.  Make sure you grab the camera and you can show off your efforts on the website.
10/11/05 - The boys were back in town.  The PointerCounts, an all male, acappela singing group from the Crane School of music, once again performed for the student body at CCS.  Their performance featured their unique take on a number of songs from contemporary hits to pop classics.  You can learn more about this group by visiting their website www.pointercounts.org .  You can see some pictures from the concert by clicking here.  You can also talk Mrs. Childs for information about ordering CDs by the group.
9/30/05 - It was a "Rock and Roll" night as the Class of 2007 sponsored the first dance of the school year.  Prizes were awarded for the best outfits and a lot of money was raised by the junior class...more 9/27/05 - Class of 2006 Magazine Sale - The senior class continues the tradition of selling magazines to raise money for their senior trip...more
9/14/05 - The Cheerleaders will be selling Maroon and White rubber bracelets in the elementary office and at the four corners during lunch time.  The costs are $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00.  Students in the elementary grades will be given a note to parents letting them know about the sale.  They can bring their forms and their money to the elementary office and Mrs. Henderson will be glad to give them their bracelets.  Thanks to everyone for the support.  Go Bulldogs!
9/6/05 - I smell a conspiracy.  It seems that the senior class won the opening day games today.  Principal Mr. Breault hands over the trophy to class president Brandon Titus after the class of 2006 won decidedly this year.  All students returned to school today.  Students in K-6 followed a normal day as the 7-12 students met briefly with each teacher before moving on to the annual afternoon games.  This year the students were greeted with a major schedule change.  We will be using a two day rotational cycle.  This will make many scheduling problems much simpler.  Please make sure you ask the faculty on parent orientation night, or when you happen to be in the building.  Here are some more pictures of the afternoon's games.
9/2/05 - Students in the 7th grade reported for orientation today.  The students were given their schedules and a chance to find their rooms, get their lockers and meet the entire 7-12 faculty.  They were also treated to a cookout complete with hot dogs, enough hamburgers to go around, salads, chips, brownies and milk.  After lunch they were divided into small groups and were challenged to work together as they participated in six different activities.  At times they were literally swinging from the rafters.  If you look at the rest of the photos carefully you will see the real Mrs. Gratto along with many images of the students having a great day.  Thanks to all the staff and faculty for making it so much fun.
9/1/05 - Be careful what you ask for.  I have been hounded recently by a member of the CCS staff about having a picture of said staff member on the web page.  I decided to go ahead and post a picture with the hope that this person will leave me alone.  I searched my archives and found what I feel to be the best picture I have taken of this staff member and posted it here.  Curious about who has been bugging me?  Here are some hints....the person is a she....she is entering her second year as a full time staff member...(I know, you are thinking Miss Peryea, but you are wrong)....this person is teaching in a different room than last year....in fact she is teaching an entirely different subject.  Give up?  Ladies and gentlemen I present Mrs. Gratto.  Isn't she cute?  Nice teeth.  Arms are a bit hairy though.  As I said, be careful what you ask for.
8/25/05 - Mr. Harrica found some turtle eggs a few months ago and did what we all do...brought them to Mr. Rundell.  He and Maggie Hanover put them in some mulch and took care of them and recently they hatched.  I am not sure if that makes Mr. Rundell or Mr. Harrica a proud father.  The turtles will be returned to where Mr. Harrica found them.  You can see a few more pictures, along with an image or two of some of the eggs by clicking here. This does make me wonder what else Mr. Rundell has growing in the school.  I have visions of Jurassic Park running through my mind.
  • SEVENTH GRADE ORIENTATION FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2005 8:15 AM-2:30 PM -
In an attempt to make the transition from sixth grade to junior high an easier experience for our students, we have scheduled a full day of orientation for those students on September 2nd. Seventh grade students will be picked up and transported to school by CCS buses just as they will be during the rest of the school year. The day's activities will begin at 8:15 AM and end at 2:30 PM at which time the buses will return the students home. Lunch will be provided. The students will first meet in the Auditorium for an introduction by Mr. Dale Breault, High School Principal and Mr. Bruce Champagne, Guidance Counselor. Students will be given an overview of their daily schedule and will receive their individual class schedules. They will then follow a shortened school day schedule that will enable them to go to each of their classes. Students will be given instruction on lockers and locks, lunch time schedules, absences and excuses, 10th period responsibilities, use of the Library, teacher expectations, and other daily procedures. Students will return to the Auditorium for 10th period. At 11:45, they will have a Bar-B-Q and then participate in team-building activities in the afternoon.
  • CCS PARENT ORIENTATION FOR GRADES 7-12 TUESDAY, SEPT. 13, 2005 6:30 - 9:00 PM -
On Tuesday, September 13th, the Chateaugay Central 7-12 faculty invites parents to come to school and participate in the schedule that their student follows on a daily basis. During class time, parents will be informed of marking procedures, classroom rules and homework policies for that class. This will give parents an opportunity to become aware of the expectations of the teacher and the responsibilities of the student. Students are encouraged to participate with parents. Parents will meet in the auditorium at 6:30 for a brief explanation about the evening activities. Parents will be given a copy of their student's schedule, which they will follow for the evening. Each class will last approximately 12 minutes. Student representatives from the National Honor Society will be available to answer questions about schedules and to help parents find the appropriate classrooms. Refreshments will be served in the High School Library by the North Franklin Educational Center Culinary Arts Class during study hall times. During 10th period, all parents will report to the auditorium for a presentation by Mr. Dale Breault, High School Principal. Parent surveys from previous years indicate strong support for this evening program. We hope that many parents will make an effort to attend. It is important to take the time to see what is expected of your child. The CCS Faculty is proud of their school, their classrooms, their educational program and their students. They encourage all parents to attend and look forward to meeting them.
