6/11/07 - It took a few days for the weather to cooperate but the freshman sponsored carnival finally took place last week.  The fundraising effort featured face painting, games, snacks and more.  Pictures

6/8/07 - Students in Mr. Miller's OAS class participated in a Model OAS event at SUNY Plattsburgh over this past weekend.  They presented resolutions prepared in class with students from many other area school.  There was also a chance to be a bit social and some dancing broke out.  Miss (soon to be a Mrs.) Johnston brought her camera along on the trip for some great shots of the presentations, the dancing and much more.  Pictures

6/6/07 - A 35 year veteran of the CCS staff took to the podium at last night's academic awards ceremony.  Students who made the honor roll for consecutive quarters were honored and new members of the Honor Society were inducted.  Mrs. Butterfield was the keynote speaker at the event and commented on the importance of reading for future success. 6/6/07 - From Mrs. Gratto - "Mrs. Harrigan's Environmental Science Class spent a morning at Marble River collecting data.  They tested the river for phosphate, nitrate and oxygen levels.  Many samples were brought back to be analyzed in the classroom.  A helpful guest was on-hand, Mr. Rundell, master of the outdoors.  A fun morning despite the chilly weather and water." 5/31/07 - Once again our very own CCS band was a highlight of two local Memorial Day parades.  On Saturday in Chateaugay and Monday in Malone, the marching band made us all proud with their performances.  Fortunately the weather cooled down from the 90 degree temperatures on Friday.  The Select Chorus was on hand Saturday to perform the national anthem.  Thanks to Joey Bernier and Miss Peryea for leading the groups.  There are many pictures of both events including one of the luckiest pictures I have ever taken.  You will know it when you see it.  Pictures

5/25/07 - It is a tradition that goes so far back that no one seems to remember how it began.  CCS held the annual Moving Up Day ceremony this afternoon.  Many awards were given out, many students honored and many friends and family members braved the hot auditorium to show their support.  I will have a list of the award winners soon, but I wanted to get the pictures up as soon as possible.  Batch 1 - Batch 2

5/29/07 - What would be your idea of fun on the hottest day we has on 2007? A nice dip a pool?  Maybe relaxing in the shade with a cool drink?  How about cleaning up the trash that people throw onto the sides of our roads.  That is exactly what members of the Science Club did before vacation.  Their first attempt was rained out but this time they braved temperatures in the high 80s.  Although I do see some shots with people eating pizza, so I do think some fun was had.  Great job. 5/17/07 - This Wednesday many CCS students boarded the bus to Montreal for a special field trip to the Body Works exhibit.  Jeong Min brought her camera with her to give us all a chance to view the exhibits through her lens.  The students from the New Visions program went along for the ride as well.  Pictures 5/14/07 - Here are more pictures from the senior trip.  This batch comes from Montana Cassavaw.  If any other seniors have pictures to share please feel free to send them in.  Pictures

5/11/07 - Students from CCS will have art work displayed at the forARTSake Gallery in Malone as part of the 6th annual Robideau/Lamitie-King juried exhibit.  The event is designed to encourage student participation in white tiger.jpg (336140 bytes)the creative arts.  CCS will be represented by works from Jatara Hyde, Connor Hesseltine, Kyle Demers, Marc Lambert, Ryan Rice, Mikaela Patnode, Dylan Lamica and Desiree Stumpf.  Desiree's work was featured in the Malone Telegram and is being used on the flyers promoting the event.  If you click on the picture a larger image will appear.  Great job artists!  A reception and awards ceremony will be held on May 19 from 1-3 PM at the gallery.

5/9/07 - You know those products you see on TV that can't possible work?  Students in Mrs. Jaggers' parenting class created some products that you may someday see on TV.  They created "Quack Products" which are bogus health-related products.  The learned about the product design and practices of such products by creating their own.  Some of their creations will make you beautiful, slim, have better version and so much more.  Here are a few PICTURES of their Quack Products.

4/30/07 - A large crowd attended the 3rd annual Chateaugay Idol Contest Friday night. There were many wonderful acts once again this year.  Shawn Douglas and Nick Poupore won the competition with their rendition of "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison.  Kayla Ignaczak and Nate Marshall sang solo and one duet to take second place.  Maggie Hanover and Kyle Demers came in third.  Tony Lamica was the host again.  Mrs. Trombley took a number of pictures but the batteries died part way through the show.  I think we have pictures of most all the acts.  Great job everyone especially the (very) few members of the Class of 2007 who worked hard.  Pictures

4/30/07 - Students in the OAS class mad the annual trek to Ottawa once again this year.  Katie Watson borrowed a camera to capture some of the exhibits and the fun that the students had over throughout the day.  Pictures

4/24/07 - So I sent down a camera with Mrs. Gratto when the students participated in the Science Olympiad in New Paltz.  How many pictures did I get?  None.  Thankfully, Lynn Leach got a new camera over April break and brought in her memory card with a few images from the trip.  10 students traveled to New Paltz with Mrs. Gratto, Mrs. Harrigan and Mr. Walley to participate in a number of events from building projects to general scientific knowledge.  The team performed much better than last year and they look forward to another chance next year.  Thanks for the pics Lynn.  Pictures

4/19/07 - CCS students in grades 4-12 were treated to an afternoon of music provided by the Biava Quartet. The event was made possible through the efforts of Mrs. Stumpf and Angela Brown from Hill and Hollow.  Austin Hartman, Mary Persin, and Hyunsu Ko along with a cello player (whose name I did not get sorry!) played a number of pieces ranging from ragtime music to Beethoven.  You can learn more about the goup by checking their website at biavaquartet.comYou can also learn more about the Hill and Hollow arts program by checking out hillandhollowmusic.com.   Thank you to all the members of the quartet for stopping by.  Pictures

4/3/07 - So...you are at the big (soccer, baseball, softball, you name it) game.  You need a place to sit and you think to yourself..."Self, I wish I had a fold up chair like everyone else but just a bit different. 3/30/07 - Ryan Beach and Christopher Mills were nominated for outstanding hands-on vocational performance and attitude in their occupational trades during the second marking period at the NFEC in Malone. Both boys are seniors here at CCS. Ryan, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Brian Beach of Chateaugay, is in the Building Trades program. Chris, son of Mrs. Karen Poserow of Chateaugay, is in Heavy Equipment.
Rosie Rounds, also a senior, passed the National E.K.G. Exam given at North Franklin Educational Center in February and is now a certified E.K.G. Technician. Rosie is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Tim Rounds of Brainardsville.
On March 13th & 14th Brittany Brown attended the International Beauty Show in New York City. Brittany is in the Cosmetology program at NFEC and competes in Skills USA. A senior, she is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William Brown of Chateaugay.

3/30/07 - Student council is sponsoring this activity to promote a positive attitude in the school setting. The idea is to wear a purple bracelet (similar to the Livestrong bands) on your right hand with the goal of going 21 days without complaining, criticizing, "whining", or making negative comments. If you fail to do so, you must move the bracelet to your left hand for the remainder of that day. After that time you may move it back to your right hand and the countdown begins again. A progress wall will be located outside Mrs. Johnston's room for those willing to share their progress with the rest of the student body. Certificates will be given to anyone that can keep it on the right wrist for 21 consecutive days! These bracelets are there to remind us to stay positive! See Mrs. Johnston or a Student Council member for YOUR bracelet. Bracelets will be on sale for 25 cents. Along with purchasing the bracelets you must sign a pledge to try your hardest not to complain or criticize. Student Council members will be visiting first period classes to explain and answer any questions.

2007 After Prom Party

The Parent Advisory Committee of Chateaugay want to remind you that there will an After Prom Party this year for those students who attend prom, from 12 PM (or when prom ends) to 5 AM. We're very excited to share with you some of the exciting activities that will be taking place at the party.

3/20/07 - "Model UN is an organization that focuses on permitting and encouraging participating students from different schools to learn and educate other students in the views of various nations on important current issues.  The "countries" (represented by students) were divided by choice into four different committees, including economic/social, legal, political and human rights.  ECO/SOC discussed the impending need for a global transition from fossil fuels to bio-energy and human trafficking.  The political committee debated the delicacy of the Iraq War  and the increasing concern over illegal immigration.  The central subject dominating the legal committee was global warming and human rights discussed important aspects of foreign nations rights and government decisions concerning citizens.  All of this discussion was encompassed within two and a half school days.   This experience has given participating students a chance to address the status of the world today while practicing diplomacy, patience and tolerance of other's opinions.  And, if only for a few days, the chance to improve the world for the next generation." -Hannah Hanover.  Pictures

3/6/07 - CCS students earned first place in the recent Science Olympiad held in Potsdam at Clarkson College over the past weekend.  The students won by 10 points over second place Potsdam and can move on to state competition in New Paltz in April.  Many students won medals in their events as can be seen in the photo to the left.  oaches Mrs. Harrigan and Mrs. Gratto thank the students for their hard work and especially wish to thank Mr. Walley for all of his help with the construction of the projects.  Thanks to Mrs. Gratto for the pictures.  

2/27/07 - A few weeks ago students from CCS participated in a science Olympiad competition at Clarkson.  Six 10th graders and two seniors participated on the team placing 6th overall.  The students placed 2nd in two events and 3rd in two events.  Congratulations to all who participated.  Miss Fregoe was on hand to capture some of the action.  Pictures 2/27/07 - Miss Fregoe's tenth grade students once again played host to Mr. LaPlante's 5th grade class.  They worked hard to present projects, models, PowerPoint presentations and a rabbit habitat.  This will be the last time the two classes work together this year.  Both groups learned quite a bit from the collaboration.  Pictures

2/16/07 - Cheerleaders playing basketball - Varsity Boys dressed as cheerleaders and teachers playing knockout.  It was a fun afternoon at CCS for Spirit Day.  To give the Varsity basketball teams a positive send-off to the playoffs Student Council organized a "Spirit Day".  Students in grades 5-12 gathered in the gym to see the cheerleaders perform and watch a few exciting rounds of knockouts.  There was even a game featuring male staff members taking on a team of senior boys.  I think you can tell from all the smiles in the pictures that the afternoon gathering was a big hit.  Have a great vacation everyone....pictures

PICT0008.JPG (112680 bytes)2/16/07 - As students in the high school arrived at their lockers this morning they all noticed a surprise.  An anonymous person left each student a chocolate flower made with Hershey kisses attached to their lockers. No word on who performed this random act of kindness but it certainly boosted the spirits of the students in the high school.  Click on the photo to enlarge.

Spirit Day - February 15th will be spirit day in the high school.  Students are encourages to wear their maroon and white colors to support the basketball teams as they enter the playoff season. Periods 7, 8 & 9 will be shortened a bit to accommodate an assembly in the gym at the end of school.  So get out your Bulldog colors and support your school. Spelling Bee - Mrs. Breault is organizing a spelling bee in her 11th grade English classes.  She will hold "regional" events in her classroom with the "nationals" to be held in the auditorium on February 16th during 2nd period for the junior classes.  Should be fun.  Good luck juniors.

1/24/07 - Romeo and Juliet gets a new look from the students in Mrs. Allen's English classes.  One of her annual projects centers around the classis Shakesperean love story and many creative projects arise from the story.  Mrs. Allen took many pictures of the projects.  Pictures 1/24/07 - Last week students from the elementary wing visited Mrs. Gardiner's classroom to pick up a few hints in the kitchen.  Check out the hard work.  By the way...I keep bringing this up...I hear about these special cooking session but I NEVER see any of the wood.  Pictures

1/16/07 - Chateaugay's Regents Physics class recently completed its 1st Annual Most Powerful Physics Student Competition.  The students' task was to lift their mass by climbing a flight of stairs in as little time as possible.  But the fastest time does not mean the most powerful.  The student with the largest mass relative to their lowest time was the winner.  Please congratulate Lee Harrigan for being the Most Powerful Physics Student at 860 watts of power.  Second place went to senior Montana Cassavaw and third place was shared by Kelsey Defayette and junior Nate Parlin.  Also, it should be noted that Steven LaBombard had the fastest time of 4.4 seconds.

12/19/06 - "The tenth and fifth graders meet again to explore the Earth's Biomes. This time the outcome is a poster about each biome. The tenth graders learned a bit more about how to research and the biomes. The fifth graders learned about the biomes and how to make a well organized poster. This isn't the last time these to classes will meet. We will all get together one more time next week, for the fifth graders to present their posters and tell the tenth graders everything that they learned. 11/15/06 - For many juniors the time has come to visit colleges and make plans for the future.  This week the entire junior class was treated to a visit to St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton to tour the campuses and get a first hand look at the opportunities ahead of them. They were also able to visit the AIDS quilt as part of their day.  Mr. Gugliotta and Mrs. Jaggers took many pictures of the trip.  We are also hoping to start a new page on the website about colleges.  If you are visiting a college, please consider taking pictures to share with the other students.  Pictures - Gugliotta - Jaggers

11/3/06 - Students in Mrs Swanston’s classes celebrated El Día de los Muertos with some elementary students. Mrs. Hesseltine’s and Mrs. Smith’s students enjoyed snacks by Margarita (Meagan) Fowler and Carmen (Taylor) Gholson from Español IV. Each student created a Calavera mask to take home. They loved our altar created by Español II and said Gracias for the help from todas las clases! Pictures

10/30/06 - Another great weekend run for the senior play.  The event is one of the final fundraising activities for the class of 2007.  Now that the performances are complete I am posting the pictures.  I did not want to spoil any of the surprises.  Congratulations to all the performers and first time directors Mr. Pickering and Ms. Nemier.  This is a large batch of photos so be patient.  Pictures

10/27/06 - Students in Mrs. Johnston's math class simulated a bungee jump using a Barbie doll and rubber bands.  The data gathered  will be used to write an equation for the line of best fit and make predictions.  Caution - Do not try this at home. 10/26/06 - Each year the sophomore class heads to Ottawa with Mr. Flaherty to get a close hand look at life in Canada.  The day is filled with trips to many educational sites.  The trip begins quite early in the day and lasts until 9:00 or later, but the students always enjoy the field trip and it has become a highlight for many.  Miss Merluzzi was in attendance and she took some picture.  I also heard that many students had their own cameras with them so if anyone else has images to share, please consider bringing them in.  Pictures

 

10/26/06 - "The mentoring program is up and running and everyone seems to be having a great time", according to Mrs. Jaggers, the catalyst for the program.  There are 5 different groups that meet once a week during 10th period.  Stay tuned for more information.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Jaggers. 10/5/06 - It's fall so it must be time for  Riverwatch in the Environmental Science class.  Mrs. Harrigan and a number of students suited up to wade through the waters collecting sample and assembling data.  If you look closely you may recognize a familiar face hiding in the woods.  Pictures 10/3/06 - Here we go again with science pictures.  They are leaving the other subjects in the dust with images from their classes. This time we have more shots of Mrs. Harrigan's class teaching 4th grade students from Mrs. Jones' class.  It was their turn today to learn about paper making.  After the activity they played a jeopardy game tied to the lesson.  Pictures
9/29/06 - Miss Fregoe's grade 8 physical science class is trying to find out how many drops of water can stay on top of a penny. Each group was very surprised to discover that their hypothesis of five to eight drops was "mildly" inaccurate. They quickly dispelled that idea and discovered that with regular water it was easy to get over 100 drops onto a penny. It quickly became a challenge to see throughout their trials who had steady enough hands to get the most drops on the pennies. One group at 131 drops, about 2.5ml of water, set the record. This group also set the record for soapy water at 48 drops. The students learned how to set up the experiment and test all the variables themselves. They will spend the weekend piecing together all their work in a lab write up to share their new knowledge. Pictures
9/25/06 - Another great batch of pictures from the science wing.  Once again Mr. Jaggers has feature his students in action.  This time it is a Physics Olympics competition.  The students were challenged to make a tower as tall as possible with a sheet of paper and a 50cm of tape.  Nate Parlin and Beverly Harrison were the winners.  Pictures

9/22/06 - CCS Mentoring Program - Mrs. Jaggers is initiating a mentoring program at CCS.  This initiative will pair a high school student with an elementary student in a model similar to the "Big Brother/ Big Sister" programs.  There will be in information meeting on September 28 during 10th period in Room 103 for any high school student interested in becoming a mentor.

9/6/06 - Seniors Win - The annual opening day games went off without a hitch and the seniors won again. This time they had a tougher time than usual.  There may have been a few suspect judgment calls on the part of the "officials".  All students reported today for an abbreviated schedule in the high school and a full day of activity in the elementary school.  Welcome back students and have a great year.  We look forward to great things from the newcomers (7th grade) and the seniors who will rule the school this year.  Pictures
9/5/06 - 7th Graders Report - It has become an annual tradition at CCS.  The 7th grade class reported to school one day early to get a first hand look at what life will be like in the other end of the building.  They are given time to find their classes, their lockers and meet the staff.  They also get a great picnic lunch and then participate in some team building activities.  This experience has proved to be popular with the students over the years.  There are many great pictures of the team building stations including a classic moment with Mr. Walley.  Have a great school year everyone!  Pictures

SEVENTH GRADE ORIENTATION
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5,2006
8:15 AM-2:30 PM

In an attempt to make the transition from sixth grade to junior high an easier experience for our students, we have scheduled a full day of orientation for those students on September 5 . Seventh grade students will be picked up and transported to school by CCS buses just as they will be during the rest of the school year. The day's activities will begin at 8:15 AM and end at 2:30 PM at which time the buses will return the students home. Lunch will be provided.

The students will first meet in the Auditorium for an introduction by Mr. Dale Breault, High School Principal and Mr. Bruce Gugliotta, Guidance Counselor. Students will be given an overview of their daily schedule and will receive their individual class schedules. They will then follow a shortened school day schedule that will enable them to go to each of their classes. Students will be given instruction on lockers and locks, lunch time schedules, absences and excuses, 10th period responsibilities, use of the Library, teacher expectations, and other daily procedures. Students will return to the Auditorium for 10th period. At 11:45, they will have a Bar-B-Q and then participate in team-building activities in the afternoon.

On Tuesday, September 19th, the Chateaugay Central 7-12 faculty invites parents to come to school and participate in the schedule that their student follows on a daily basis. During class time, parents will be informed of marking procedures, classroom rules and homework policies for that class. This will give parents an opportunity to become aware of the expectations of the teacher and the responsibilities of the student. Students are encouraged to participate with parents. Parents will meet in the auditorium at 6:30 for a brief explanation about the evening activities. Parents will be given a copy of their student's schedule, which they will follow for the evening. Each class will last approximately 12 minutes. Student representatives from the National Honor Society will be available to answer questions about schedules and to help parents find the appropriate classrooms.

Refreshments will be served in the High School Library by the North Franklin Educational Center Culinary Arts Class during study hall times. During 10th period, all parents will report to the auditorium for a presentation by Mr. Dale Breault, High School Principal. Parent surveys from previous years indicate strong support for this evening program. We hope that many parents will make an effort to attend. It is important to take the time to see what is expected of your child. The CCS Faculty is proud of their school, their classrooms, their educational program and their students. They encourage all parents to attend and look forward to meeting them.

An important message from Mr. Breault about back to school clothing purchases.

When purchasing school clothing for the upcoming school year, parents and students should keep the school's dress code in mind. Please also keep in mind that with the popularity of NASCAR, many students want to have an item of clothing with their favorite driver on it. The problem with NASCAR as well as many other sporting events and teams, is that alcohol companies sponsor them. Many of the clothing items with NASCAR logos that you buy also have alcohol logos on them. Please remember that these types of clothing items are not allowed in school.

A student's dress, grooming and appearance, including jewelry, accessories, and make-up,
shall:

  1. Be safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with the educational process. Students should note that in certain classes where clothing safety is an additional concern, such as physical education or woodshop, additional restrictions on appropriate attire will be outlined and enforced by the teacher.
  2. Recognize that extremely brief garments such as tube tops, net tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, plunging necklines (front and/or back) and see-through garments are not appropriate.
  3. Ensure that shorts and skirts are of an appropriate length. (A good rule of thumb is that the hem of the garment should be of fingertip length when holding your hands by your side. This rule however can vary depending on body type.)
  4. Ensure that shirts and waistlines completely cover the midriff without continual adjustment.
  5. Ensure that underwear is completely covered with outer clothing. Clothing with rips and/or tears in inappropriate areas are not allowed.
  6. Include footwear at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be allowed.
  7. Not include the wearing of hats, except for medical or religious purpose.
  8. Not include items that are vulgar, obscene, libelous or denigrate others on account of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Items that display pictures or text with a "dual meaning" where one of the interpretations can be considered inappropriate are also not allowed.
  9. Not include logos, pictures, or text that promotes and/or endorses the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs and/or encourages other illegal or violent activities.
  10. Not include cell-phones, beepers, pagers, two-way communication devices or personal music players.
  11. Not include the wearing of sunglasses unless medically necessary.
