- Students in Mr. Miller's OAS class participated in a Model OAS
event at SUNY Plattsburgh over this past weekend. They presented
resolutions prepared in class with students from many other area
school. There was also a chance to be a bit social and some
dancing broke out. Miss (soon to be a Mrs.) Johnston brought her
camera along on the trip for some great shots of the presentations,
the dancing and much more. Pictures

- From Mrs. Gratto - "Mrs. Harrigan's Environmental Science
Class spent a morning at Marble River collecting data. They
tested the river for phosphate, nitrate and oxygen levels. Many
samples were brought back to be analyzed in the classroom. A
helpful guest was on-hand, Mr. Rundell, master of the outdoors.
A fun morning despite the chilly weather and water." Pictures

5/31/07 - Once again our very own
CCS band was a highlight of two local Memorial
Day parades. On Saturday in Chateaugay and Monday in Malone, the
marching band made us all proud with their performances.
Fortunately the weather cooled down from the 90 degree temperatures on
Friday. The Select Chorus was on hand Saturday to perform the
national anthem. Thanks to Joey Bernier and Miss Peryea for
leading the groups. There are many pictures of both events
including one of the luckiest pictures I have ever taken. You
will know it when you see it. Pictures

- It is a tradition that goes so far back that no one seems to
remember how it began. CCS held the annual Moving Up Day
ceremony this afternoon. Many awards were given out, many
students honored and many friends and family members braved the hot
auditorium to show their support. I will have a list of the
award winners soon, but I wanted to get the pictures up as soon as
possible. Batch

5/29/07 - What would be your idea
of fun on the hottest day we has on 2007?
A nice dip a pool? Maybe relaxing in the shade with a cool
drink? How about cleaning up the trash that people throw onto
the sides of our roads. That is exactly what members of the
Science Club did before vacation. Their first attempt was rained
out but this time they braved temperatures in the high 80s.
Although I do see some shots with people eating pizza, so I do think
some fun was had. Great job. Pictures

- You know those products you see on TV that can't possible
work? Students in Mrs. Jaggers' parenting class created some
products that you may someday see on TV. They created
"Quack Products" which are bogus health-related
products. The learned about the product design and practices of
such products by creating their own. Some of their creations
will make you beautiful, slim, have better version and so much
more. Here are a few PICTURES

- A large crowd attended the 3rd annual Chateaugay Idol Contest
Friday night. There were many wonderful acts once again this
year. Shawn Douglas and Nick Poupore won the competition with
their rendition of "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by
Poison. Kayla Ignaczak and Nate Marshall sang solo and one duet
to take second place. Maggie Hanover and Kyle Demers came in
third. Tony Lamica was the host again. Mrs. Trombley took
a number of pictures but the batteries died part way through the
show. I think we have pictures of most all the acts. Great
job everyone especially the (very) few members of the Class of 2007
who worked hard. Pictures

4/24/07 - So I sent down a camera
with Mrs. Gratto when the students participated in the Science
Olympiad in New Paltz. How many pictures did I get?
None. Thankfully, Lynn Leach got a new camera over April break
and brought in her memory card with a few images from the trip.
10 students traveled to New Paltz with Mrs. Gratto, Mrs. Harrigan and
Mr. Walley to participate in a number of events from building projects
to general scientific knowledge. The team performed much better
than last year and they look forward to another chance next
year. Thanks for the pics Lynn. Pictures

Quartet.
The event was made possible through the efforts of Mrs. Stumpf and
Angela Brown from Hill and Hollow. Austin Hartman, Mary Persin,
and Hyunsu Ko along with a cello player (whose name I did not get
sorry!) played a number of pieces ranging from ragtime music to
Beethoven. You can learn more about the goup by checking their
website at biavaquartet.com.
You can also learn more about the Hill and Hollow arts program by

4/3/07 - So...you are at the big
(soccer, baseball, softball, you name it) game. You need a place
to sit and you think to yourself..."Self, I wish I had a fold up
chair like everyone else but just a bit different. Mine is Maroon and
White and has the CCS Bulldog Logo on it." If you have had
this internal dialogue you will be thrilled to hear that the Class of
2009 is selling just such a chair. According to information
provided by advisor Mrs. Swanston, they are "super cool,
fold-up, cup holding sports chairs". Want to get your
hands...I mean butt on one? Simply click HERE

- Student council is sponsoring this activity to promote a positive
attitude in the school setting. The idea is to wear a purple bracelet
(similar to the Livestrong bands) on your right hand with the goal of
going 21 days without complaining, criticizing, "whining",
or making negative comments. If you fail to do so, you must move the
bracelet to your left hand for the remainder of that day. After that
time you may move it back to your right hand and the countdown begins
again. A progress wall will be located outside Mrs. Johnston's room
for those willing to share their progress with the rest of the student
body. Certificates will be given to anyone that can keep it on the
right wrist for 21 consecutive days! These bracelets are there to
remind us to stay positive! See Mrs. Johnston or a Student Council
member for YOUR bracelet. Bracelets will be on sale for 25 cents.
Along with purchasing the bracelets you must sign a pledge to try your
hardest not to complain or criticize. Student Council members will be
visiting first period classes to explain and answer any questions.

3/20/07 - "Model UN is an
organization that focuses on permitting and encouraging participating
students from different schools to learn and educate other students in
the views of various nations on important current issues.
The "countries" (represented by students) were divided by choice
into four different committees, including economic/social, legal, political
and human rights. ECO/SOC discussed the impending need for a
global transition from fossil fuels to bio-energy and human trafficking.
The political committee debated the delicacy of the Iraq War and
the increasing concern over illegal immigration. The central
subject dominating the legal committee was global warming and human
rights discussed important aspects of foreign nations rights and
government decisions concerning citizens. All of this discussion
was encompassed within two and a half school days. This
experience has given participating students a chance to address the
status of the world today while practicing diplomacy, patience and
tolerance of other's opinions. And, if only for a few days, the
chance to improve the world for the next generation." -Hannah

- Cheerleaders playing basketball - Varsity Boys dressed as
cheerleaders and teachers playing knockout. It was a fun
afternoon at CCS for Spirit Day. To give the Varsity basketball
teams a positive send-off to the playoffs Student Council organized a
"Spirit Day". Students in grades 5-12 gathered in the
gym to see the cheerleaders perform and watch a few exciting rounds of
knockouts. There was even a game featuring male staff members
taking on a team of senior boys. I think you can tell from all
the smiles in the pictures that the afternoon gathering was a big
hit. Have a great vacation everyone....pictures |

- Chateaugay's Regents Physics class recently completed its 1st Annual
Most Powerful Physics Student Competition. The students' task
was to lift their mass by climbing a flight of stairs in as little
time as possible. But the fastest time does not mean the most
powerful. The student with the largest mass relative to their
lowest time was the winner. Please congratulate Lee Harrigan for
being the Most Powerful Physics Student at 860 watts of power.
Second place went to senior Montana Cassavaw and third place was
shared by Kelsey Defayette and junior Nate Parlin. Also, it
should be noted that Steven LaBombard had the fastest time of 4.4

10/26/06 - Each year the sophomore
class heads to Ottawa with Mr. Flaherty to get a close hand look
at life in Canada. The day is filled with trips to many
educational sites. The trip begins quite early in the day and
lasts until 9:00 or later, but the students always enjoy the field
trip and it has become a highlight for many. Miss Merluzzi was
in attendance and she took some picture. I also heard that many
students had their own cameras with them so if anyone else has images
to share, please consider bringing them in. Pictures

- Here we go again with science pictures. They are leaving
the other subjects in the dust with images from their classes. This
time we have more shots of Mrs. Harrigan's class teaching 4th grade
students from Mrs. Jones' class. It was their turn today to
learn about paper making. After the activity they played a
jeopardy game tied to the lesson. Pictures |
9/29/06 - Miss Fregoe's grade 8
physical science class is trying to find out how many drops of water c an
stay on top of a penny. Each group was very surprised to discover that
their hypothesis of five to eight drops was "mildly"
inaccurate. They quickly dispelled that idea and discovered that with
regular water it was easy to get over 100 drops onto a penny. It
quickly became a challenge to see throughout their trials who had
steady enough hands to get the most drops on the pennies. One group at
131 drops, about 2.5ml of water, set the record. This group also set
the record for soapy water at 48 drops. The students learned how to
set up the experiment and test all the variables themselves. They will
spend the weekend piecing together all their work in a lab write up to
share their new knowledge. Pictures |
9/25/06
- Another great batch of pictures from the science wing.
Once again Mr. Jaggers has feature his students in action. This
time it is a Physics Olympics competition. The students were

9/22/06 - CCS Mentoring Program - Mrs.
Jaggers is initiating a mentoring program at CCS. This
initiative will pair a high school student with an elementary student
in a model similar to the "Big Brother/ Big Sister"
programs. There will be in information meeting on September 28
during 10th period in Room 103 for any high school student interested
in becoming a mentor. |

9/6/06 - Seniors Win - The annual
opening day games went off without a hitch and the seniors won again.
This time they had a tougher time than usual. There may have
been a few suspect judgment calls on the part of the
"officials". All students reported today for an
abbreviated schedule in the high school and a full day of activity in
the elementary school. Welcome back students and have a great
year. We look forward to great things from the newcomers (7th
grade) and the seniors who will rule the school this year. Pictures |
9/5/06
- 7th Graders Report - It has become an annual tradition at
CCS. The 7th grade class reported to school one day early to get
a first hand look at what life will be like in the other end of the
building. They are given time to find their classes, their
lockers and meet the staff. They also get a great picnic lunch
and then participate in some team building activities. This
experience has proved to be popular with the students over the
years. There are many great pictures of the team building
stations including a classic moment with Mr. Walley. Have a
great school year everyone! Pictures |

SEVENTH GRADE
ORIENTATION
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5,2006
8:15 AM-2:30 PM
In an attempt to make the
transition from sixth grade to junior high an easier experience for
our students, we have scheduled a full day of orientation for those
students on September 5 . Seventh grade students will be picked up and
transported to school by CCS buses just as they will be during the
rest of the school year. The day's activities will begin at 8:15 AM
and end at 2:30 PM at which time the buses will return the students
home. Lunch will be provided.
The students will first meet in the Auditorium for an introduction by
Mr. Dale Breault, High School Principal and Mr. Bruce Gugliotta,
Guidance Counselor. Students will be given an overview of their daily
schedule and will receive their individual class schedules. They will
then follow a shortened school day schedule that will enable them to
go to each of their classes. Students will be given instruction on
lockers and locks, lunch time schedules, absences and excuses, 10th
period responsibilities, use of the Library, teacher expectations, and
other daily procedures. Students will return to the Auditorium for
10th period. At 11:45, they will have a Bar-B-Q and then participate
in team-building activities in the afternoon. |

school and participate in the schedule that their student follows on a
daily basis. During class time, parents will be informed of marking
procedures, classroom rules and homework policies for that class. This
will give parents an opportunity to become aware of the expectations
of the teacher and the responsibilities of the student. Students are
encouraged to participate with parents. Parents will meet in the
auditorium at 6:30 for a brief explanation about the evening
activities. Parents will be given a copy of their student's schedule,
which they will follow for the evening. Each class will last
approximately 12 minutes. Student representatives from the National
Honor Society will be available to answer questions about schedules
and to help parents find the appropriate classrooms.
Refreshments will be served in the High School Library by the North
Franklin Educational Center Culinary Arts Class during study hall
times. During 10th period, all parents will report to the auditorium
for a presentation by Mr. Dale Breault, High School Principal. Parent
surveys from previous years indicate strong support for this evening
program. We hope that many parents will make an effort to attend. It
is important to take the time to see what is expected of your child.
The CCS Faculty is proud of their school, their classrooms, their
educational program and their students. They encourage all parents to
attend and look forward to meeting them. |

An
important message from Mr. Breault about back to school
clothing purchases.
When purchasing school
clothing for the upcoming school year, parents and
students should keep the school's dress code in mind.
Please also keep in mind that with the popularity of
NASCAR, many students want to have an item of clothing
with their favorite driver on it. The problem with
NASCAR as well as many other sporting events and teams,
is that alcohol companies sponsor them. Many of the
clothing items with NASCAR logos that you buy also have
alcohol logos on them. Please remember that these types
of clothing items are not allowed in school.
Please refer to the
Chateaugay Central School dress code below for more
information on school-clothes.
A student's dress,
grooming and appearance, including jewelry, accessories,
and make-up,
shall:
- Be safe, appropriate
and not disrupt or interfere with the educational
process. Students should note that in certain classes
where clothing safety is an additional concern, such as
physical education or woodshop, additional restrictions
on appropriate attire will be outlined and enforced by
the teacher.
- Recognize that
extremely brief garments such as tube tops, net tops,
halter tops, spaghetti straps, plunging necklines (front
and/or back) and see-through garments are not
appropriate.
- Ensure that shorts and
skirts are of an appropriate length. (A good rule of
thumb is that the hem of the garment should be of
fingertip length when holding your hands by your side.
This rule however can vary depending on body type.)
- Ensure that shirts and
waistlines completely cover the midriff without
continual adjustment.
- Ensure that underwear
is completely covered with outer clothing. Clothing with
rips and/or tears in inappropriate areas are not
allowed.
- Include footwear at
all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be
allowed.
- Not include the
wearing of hats, except for medical or religious
purpose.
- Not include items that
are vulgar, obscene, libelous or denigrate others on
account of race, color, religion, creed, national
origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Items
that display pictures or text with a "dual
meaning" where one of the interpretations can be
considered inappropriate are also not allowed.
- Not include logos,
pictures, or text that promotes and/or endorses the use
of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs and/or encourages
other illegal or violent activities.
- Not include
cell-phones, beepers, pagers, two-way communication
devices or personal music players.
- Not include the
wearing of sunglasses unless medically necessary.
