2/8/07 - So you want to see the Smugg's pictures?  Here they are...now quit bugging me.  Seriously though...quit bugging me.  Thanks to Lynn Leach for babysitting the camera over the weekend and providing a glimpse of the fun at the winter retreat.  The annual trek is a highlight for the ski club and according to the chaperones, the students were very well behaved.  If anyone else has pictures to share, please get them to me.  I may be able to get one or two into the yearbook.  So you want the pictures huh?  Click here

Ski Club Trip to Smuggler's Notch, Vermont

Smuggler's Notch ski resort is located in Vermont about 2 hours from Chateaugay. It is a family-oriented ski resort that resembles a small village. Although our main focus of this trip is skiing, it not only offers skiing but many other activities as well so that there is little "down time" for students, and they can stay busy throughout the weekend.

Date: Friday afternoon (after school), February 2nd , 2007 - Sunday afternoon, February 4th, 2007. We generally leave on Friday afternoon from the school parking lot between 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. and return to Chateaugay School on Sunday afternoon at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Cost: $169.00 per person. This includes a 2-day lift ticket, lodging for two nights (condominium style with full kitchen, living room, bedrooms etc.), and lots of extra activities like ice skating, swimming, and a game room.

Payment: The down payment to secure a place on the trip is $50.00 and must be turned in to the main office by Friday, December 15th The final payment must be made by Friday, January 12th. When you sign up for the trip, PLEASE be sure that you are going to be able to go and that you want to go. We have had problems in the past with people "backing out" of going on the trip, and this has caused us some problems. We need to have a certain number of people to go on the trip to secure the group rate and also to justify having enough people for a school bus. So, we count on you to go if you say you are going. Also, we have to send in the payments to the ski resort, and we cannot get a refund. So, once you make a down payment, please realize that you have made a commitment to go.

What to Bring:  We suggest about $50.00 in spending money but of course that can vary from person to person depending upon if you want souvenirs and whether or not you are going to bring some of your own food. There is a full kitchen so you can bring food if you wish because it can be a little expensive just like at any ski resort. We stop at McDonald's on the way Friday afternoon for dinner in Vermont and on the way home Sunday afternoon for dinner. We do provide a spaghetti dinner on Saturday night for everyone free of charge. Of course, bring warm clothing and your ski gear. If you need to rent ski gear we really encourage you to do so at a ski shop such as Viking Ski Shop in Plattsburgh. It is much easier than renting at Smuggler's Notch for all involved.

Please do not join ski club just to go on this trip. We expect you to participate in ski club before you go. We do make exceptions for sports players because of your game and practice schedule during the week. Also, Chateaugay Central School Ski Club has a good reputation at Smuggler's Notch, so if you think you cannot behave on the trip please do not participate. We go to have fun and do not want any problems.

TRACKS & TRAIL - The Chateaugay Ski Club News

Two feet of snow in Buffalo - time to take out your equipment and tune it up! If you rent equipment from one of the ski shops in Plattsburgh, it is time to do so now. If you plan on skiing at least twice a week, it is cheaper to rent your own equipment for the entire season than to rent each time you go to Titus Mountain.

Membership in the Chateaugay Ski Club is open to all students from 6th to 12th grade. In order to join Ski Club, a permission slip must be signed by a parent and the student must agree to follow the school's conduct code. These forms may be obtained from the Ski Club advisors. Ski Club members do not have to go on every trip to Titus Mountain in order to remain members of the Club.
There will be eight trips scheduled to Titus Mountain starting soon after Thanksgiving vacation. The schedule will be posted. We usually go to Titus on Thursday nights, some Wednesday nights may be included so it is important to watch for the schedule. The bus always leaves school at 4:30 pm sharp and returns at about 10:00 pm. Students may be picked up at Titus Mountain but only by their parent.

Carpools are not allowed.

The prices for a night of skiing or boarding are as follows:

  • Lift Ticket & a Lesson - $12.00
  • Ski Package Rental - $ 9.00
  • Snowboard Package Rental - $10.00
  • Lesson for a Season Pass Holder - $ 8.00
  • Ski Boot Rental - $ 9.00

Students may bring their own food from home or buy dinner at the Ski Lodge for about $5.00.

Once again we are in the planning process for a weekend ski trip to Smuggler's Notch, Vermont. We plan on leaving from school on February 2nd at 4:30 pm and will be returning on February 4th. SAVE THESE DATES! The cost of two nights lodging and two days of skiing is $169, which is the same as it was last year. Students must be members of the Ski Club in order to go. Please note that at this time the trip to Smuggler's Notch is only tentative. We wanted to give you the opportunity to save these dates and to start saving your money if you wish to go.

We are looking forward to a great snowy season and wish to thank Mr. Harrica and the members of the Board of Education for their continued support of the Chateaugay Ski Program.
