News from Grade 5 - Miss Helm and Mr. LaPlante
Grade 5 students are off to a great start this school year. They have
quickly settled in to the fifth grade routine and are working diligently
on their studies.
We were pleased that so many parents were able to attend the
informational meeting. We thank the parents for their involvement and
support. We look forward to seeing them again at the Open House in November.
The fifth graders are working hard writing compositions and reviewing
facts, especially in Social Studies. Our first major test will be the New York State Social
Studies Test which we will take in November. We continue to learn how
to answer multiple choice questions and constructed-response questions.
We are also learning how to write essays based on data that we see in
documents. These types of tasks are on the test
As the year progresses, we will work on many different concepts in math.
It is important that students practice their multiplication and division
facts. Knowing these facts will help children more easily complete
assigned tasks.
Always a favorite with children is the Halloween Parade and our
classroom parties. More details on this fun afternoon will be forthcoming.
With such a great start to this school year we can't help but look
forward to the rest of the year. We encourage our students to make use of the double
dismissal period. This is a great time for completing homework, getting
extra help, working on projects, using computers, and completing other activities.
We
send special thanks to Mr. Reynolds for continuing his noon hour
intramural
program. The students enjoy their time with
Mr. Reynolds.
Our special thank you also to parents who have treated us so far this
year. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and have enjoyed the delicious
treats you have sent in for us.
