Fall is an Important Testing Period

ASVAB - On Tuesday, October 23rd, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be given to all sophomores and any interested juniors and seniors. The ASVAB is used by all branches of the military as a qualification test. Students can learn which military occupations they qualify for as well as learn about civilian jobs that are related.

There is no obligation to the military for the test takers and students are encouraged to take this test in order to learn about their potential vocational skills. The test is administered by civilian personnel, assisted by the military recruiters, and requires about 3 hours. There is no charge to the student. Test scores and follow-up materials can be very useful tools for job exploration.

PSAT - On Wednesday, October 17th, the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test will be given in school. The PSAT is used for several purposes. It provides students with an impartial evaluation of their ability to do college-level work and compares their academic ability with other college-bound juniors nationwide. The PSAT is a shortened version of the SAT I, commonly referred to as the "College Boards," and gives students practice in taking this type of test. Another very important use of this test is that it serves as the qualifying exam for the National-Merit Scholarship competition. This is a multi-million dollar scholarship program operated by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Students usually take the PSAT in October of their junior year. There is a registration fee of $13.00 which must be paid prior to the test date. College-bound juniors are encouraged to take this test. Sophomores are permitted to test as well but they are not entered into the scholarship competition.

Senior/Parent Nights- We will have three senior/parent nights this fall. The first session will be October 11, 2007 at 7pm. During this session we will discuss finishing college research, the start of the application process, different ideas for majors and the overall layout of college admissions during the senior year. During the November 8, 2007 (at 7pm) session we will check in with how far on the checklist students have gotten and put together the last ideas for the college admissions process. The third date will be announced at a later time. The third session is always the "Lets talk money " session in which we will discuss financial aid.

November 3rd SAT Test Registration deadline is October 2nd.

December 8th ACT Test Registration deadline is November 2nd.
