The last quarter of the school year has been, and continues to be, a very busy one for fourth graders! It's hard to believe that the school year has almost come to an end!

Fourth graders, in May, enjoyed the opportunity to view the Spring Concerts given by students in grades 5-8 and students in grades 9-12. The students who performed did a great job! Mrs. Boyea and Mrs. Jones would like to thank Mrs. Childs for the wonderful job she did this year teaching music. She will be missed next year.

Also, in May, fourth graders were busy preparing for and taking the New York State Science Test. They especially enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the performance part of the test. The students worked hard and should be commended for their efforts.

Mrs. Jones' class said goodbye to Miss Frechette on May 19th. Miss Frechette did a great job teaching the children in each of the subject areas. We will miss her and wish her the best!

Miss Angie Martin began, in May, to come into our classrooms to teach and discuss issues surrounding important Life Skills. We thank Miss Martin for her time.

In Math, the children continued to learn new concepts and reinforce their learning of old concepts. Please remind the children that they should continue, over the summer, to practice basic facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Knowledge of the basic facts is very important!

In Science, in addition to reviewing for the state test, students completed the Matter unit and the Heat unit and started a unit on Motion. The year will end with a short unit on Simple Machines.

In Social Studies, both classes learned about the Revolutionary War and events of the war that took place in New York State. Additionally, students learned about New York State in its Early Years. Next, the children will learn about early transportation in New York State and about the Erie Canal.

In Reading, Mrs. Boyea's class finished reading Night of the Twisters and Mrs. Jones' class finished reading Poppy. Mrs. Boyea's class then started working on Memory Books and Mrs. Jones' class started reading Number the Stars. Both classes will end the year working on Document Based Questions in preparation for the Fifth Grade Social Studies Test. As always, we are thankful to Mrs. Dumas for the help and instruction that she gives during reading time.

A Happy May Birthday was wished to Kyle Hill (8th), Gabrielle Lafleur (18th), Seth Young (24th), Hannah Soulier (25th), and Haylee Tower (29th). A Happy June Birthday is wished to Mike Downing (4th). A Happy July Birthday is wished to Ben Titus (10th), Brennen Secore (14th), Cheyenne Hess (17th), and Samantha Rheaume (19th). A Happy August Birthday is wished to Evan King (1st), Kody Wilder (10th), Zachary Cook (12th), Chad Stalter (28th), and Hannah Cook (29th).

In June, the children look forward to our trip to Upper Canada Village on the 2nd. They also look forward to Olympic Day and to making special gifts for their fathers for Father's Day. (Happy Father's Day, dads!) Additionally, Mrs. Jones' class looks forward to meeting their pen pals from Mrs. St. Denis' class in Malone on the 12th.

Mrs. Boyea and Mrs. Jones would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for their help and support this year. Thanks also for the many snacks that were sent in. Everything you do is appreciated!

Mrs. Boyea and Mrs. Jones would also like to thank Mrs. Fowler, Mrs. Henderson, Teaching Assistants, Special Area teachers, Nurses, Cafeteria Staff,

Thank you to all of the Custodial/Maintenance Staff, the Office Staff, and everyone else who contributed to the students' learning this year. Each and every one of you is appreciated!

We have greatly enjoyed working with your children this year and will miss them next year! We wish all fourth graders the best of luck in fifth grade! Have a wonderful summer. We look forward to seeing everyone in September!

While every effort will be made to post assignments on the website, for a number of reasons it is not always possible, and therefore  it is the student's responsibility to get their assignments from their teachers during class time.
