- "Fossils, fossils and more fossils. Mrs. McCormick's
kindergarten class spent some time this morning with Mrs. Harrigan and
Mrs. Grattos learning about fossils. They made their own fossils
to take home using seashells and plaster of paris. They also
made "imprints" using ink and their fingers. Enjoy the
photos." - From Mrs. Gratto - Pictures |

- From "A" to "Z" the Kindergarten Class of
2007 performed some wonderful musical numbers this morning prior to
their graduation ceremony. Each letter of the alphabet was
represented and many styles of music were introduced. I cannot
do as much justice to the presentation as the pictures can, so
enjoy. Pictures |
6/15/07 - This is a special picture
posting. There are
large, ready to download and print files here of each kindergarten
student. Thanks to Mrs. Premo for getting these images to me so
everyone can share them. Be warned...the files are fairly
large. If you have trouble downloading them, please let me
know. Pictures |

- Wild Life - This time it is the 2nd grade classes hitting the
road to learn about life in the Wild. They went to Tupper Lake
to visit the Wild Center. The students examined a number of
exhibits that taught them about the habitat in and around the North
Country. Thanks to Mrs. Premo we have some pictures from the
day's event. Pictures |

- Last Friday the 4th grade classes headed into Canada for the annual
trip to Upper Canada Village. There they learned how people use
to live and work many years ago. They were able to participate
in a number oaf activities and were given a chance to work hands-on
with a number of the exhibits. Thanks to Mrs. Ashline for
bringing along camera to catch the smiles and the exhibits. Pictures |

- A few pictures were sent in recently from Mrs. Premo from two
kindergarten
events. One batch is from the annual wedding ceremony held in
kindergarten when the letter Q marries the letter U. The other
is from a trip to Alice Hyde Hospital where the students see a magic
performance about Mr. Yuk, tour parts of the hospital and have a
chance to have their teddy bears diagnosed and repaired. Wedding

- Students in grades K-6 were treated to a special assembly this
afternoon. A theatre group from Syracuse performed for
them. The performance was a play that told a story about the
moon, the sun and the sea. There were some wonderful colors,
funny scenes, and the students had a chance to do the wave. I
could tell from all the laughter that the performance was a big
hit. Pictures |

- Some more pictures from the Elementary Ski trip, this time from Miss
Helm. The more pictures I see the more jealous I get that I did
not get a chance to go to with the students. Thanks Miss Helm. Pictures |

03/21/07 4th and 5th Grade Ski
Trip:
What an amazing day we all had skiing at Titus Mountain
today. Get your wallets ready because these kids can ski!
You'll want to get them signed up for ski club next year. The
elementary students had the opportunity to ski with the high school
ski club instructors! The instructors were knowledgeable and patient.
They provided just the right amount of guidance and independence to
ensure each kid was successful. Special thanks to Mr. Quinn,
Mrs. Kelting, Mrs. Deans, and Mrs. Parmeter for their
leadership. They are instrumental in providing many
opportunities for ski club members to ski! You'll also see Mrs.
Jones, Mr. LaPlante, Miss Helm, and Miss Harrica - substitute for Mrs.
Vanier and you guessed it, Mr. Harrica's daughter. We could not
have ordered up a better day of weather than what we had today.
And, we could not have ordered up a better group of courageous
kids! Check out these Ski Trip

02/12/07 Freshman Sponsored 5th
and 6th Grade Dance:
Mr. Sandvig and nine students from the Freshman Class (Lynn Leach,
Cassondra Whyte, Joshua Patnode, Ivan Chase, Marissa Cook, Chelsey
Legacy, Marci Wood, Amanda Wilcox, and Annie Smith) entertained our
5th and 6th grade students at the dance this afternoon. You'll
be happy to know that all the students were well behaved and fun to be
with the entire two and one/half hours we had with them. Thanks
for allowing them to be a part of this social event. I'm sure
that the Freshman Class will be counting their profits...and be
pleased with the total that they'll put in the coffers! Enjoy

- The weather outside is not really frightful, but I can say the
singing inside was delightful. Students in grades K-6 performed
in the annual Sing-A-Long this morning. Each class sang a
popular holiday song and the members of the 5th grade band performed
in front of the audience for the first time. It is always a
great way to head into the holiday season and vacation. But enough
with the words...you really want pictures. |

- "Mr. LaPlant's 5th grade class recently teamed up with Ms.
Fregoe's 10th grade Living Environment class to learn about
classification. The students worked together to create
vocabulary flashcard folders. Each Wednesday and Thursday the
two classes will team up for the next few weeks to learn about
ecology." - Thanks Ms. Fregoe - sounds like fun for both
groups. Pictures |

- Mrs. Fowler spent part of Thursday taking many pictures
of the students in the elementary wing as they put final
touches on their projects and displays in anticipation for
the annual Open House and Spaghetti Supper. The
night was another success. Parents, friend and
family members came to eat good food an mingle with
teachers. As can be seen from the pictures a lot of
hard work went into getting the school ready. There
are over 100 pictures here so be patient as the file
loads. Pictures |

- I received some photos of the Kindergarten class making
milkshakes with the help of a special
visitor. OK people, I mentioned this last
year...when I am asked to put up pictures of students
making goodies I always wonder...why don't I get any of
the treats? Perhaps I don't need anymore
sweets? Pictures
(There are also a few Halloween pictures in this
batch.) |

- A number of students stay after school each day in
the Latch Key program where they are treated to afternoon
snacks and activities while they wait for their parents to
pick them up. This year one of the staff members
borrowed the camera during Halloween week. It sure
looks like these students have a great time in this
valuable program. Pictures |

- Among the many activities that children participate
in during Halloween time is pumpkin carving. This is
one of the longest standing holiday traditions and
students in Mrs. Cartier's class were showing off their
skills last week. These pictures were emailed to me
recently. Pictures |

Mrs.
Watson's Second Grade Class Reads 100 Books! Scholastic Book Club supports literacy
development for all children. As part of this
publisher's 100 Book Campaign, classrooms across the
United States are given the incentive to read 100 books.
As the students in class read a book, a picture chart is
completed. Once the 100 book chart is completed,
Scholastic Publishers will donate 100 books to a classroom
in a school that desperately needs the books. This
group of Chateaugay students benefited from reading their
books and another class somewhere in our nation will
benefit as well. Please keep up the 100 book pace
and encourage your child to continue reading...even if he
or she is not in second grade!

Elementary child thanks to Mrs. Trombley. I did not
edit out anything so I could get these online in time.
Enjoy! There are many wonderful costumes.

10/12/06 - Our kindergarten and first grade
students had the opportunity to visit the Chateaugay Fire
Station. Mrs. Cartier and McCormick's classes are featured in
the following pictures. PHOTOS
Mr. Roach
had a special surprise for all the
students and Mrs. Fowler. Mrs. Fowler drove the fire engine! WOW
what an experience. Sitting behind the whee l, I could feel the
immense responsibility our volunteer fireman have when they protect
our community. Thanks to all our volunteers! They are standing
by the fire engine. If you see them in the community, please
take time to thank them for keeping our community safe! PICTURES
PS I had to ask to wear a fireman's hat. I think it weighed 50
pounds!

10/12/06 -
Our 2nd - 6th grade students were
treated to a special Fire Prevention Assembly today. Mrs. Green
demonstrated the use of a special blood pressure machine, how young
children and larger children are placed on a backboard, she even had the
older student turned sideways to demonstrate the sturdiness of the
restraints. Then she showed the special splint that's used to
vacuum out the air and secure an injured limb. Mr. Quimet gave
the students a 10-question test to measure their knowledge of important
Fire Safety Rules. He stressed the importance of practicing fire
safety at home. Please help our volunteer fireman by having fire drills
at home. Practice multiple ways to exit your home and determine a
location where everyone will go in the event of a fire.
Two firefighters raced to see who could dress in their rescue gear
first. It was an extremely close race! PHOTOS

OREO PROJECTS: Fourth graders in Mrs. Jones'
class took part in an online project, through technospuds.com this week.
Classrooms from all over the country (and world) participated in the
online project in which the students had to make a stack of OREO
cookies. The object was to make the tallest stack possible without the
OREOs tumbling. The children (and Mrs. Jones!) discovered it was harder
than it looked! After each student made two attempts at their stack, the
class put the totals together and came up with a class average. PHOTOS
For extra fun, the children had the opportunity to make OREO
sculptures using only OREO cookies. What a mess! Check out the PICTURES!

10/11/06 - Birds of Prey -
PHOTOS
WHooooo is that in Mrs. Jones' room? Mike Brennen from the
Visitor's Interpretive Center visited the fourth graders yesterday to
teach them about animal adaptations. The presentation began with a
slide show (Yes, a slide show.... "Oh, that's what they used to
use before movies!") about the different kinds of owls that can
be found in the North Country. Following the slide presentation, Mr.
Brennen showed the children an actual owl and the adaptations owls
have that help them to survive in the wild.

More apple orchard pictures and some youth soccer pictures were
waiting in my mailbox. Thank you this time to the Roach family
for the pictures. They put some images on a CD and here they are
for everyone to enjoy. If you have something to share with everyone at
CCS please send along a CD, drop off your memory card, or send me an
email. Pictures

10/3/06 Mr. Trombley asked
what could be better than spending a fall day at an apple orchard?
I overheard some parents indicate that they were going
home and baking apple pie. Eating apple pie would make the trip
all the better. As would Apple Crisp, Apple Fritters, Apple
Turnovers, Caramel Apples.... Apples, Apples,Apples.
Yummy!
More pictures from Mrs. Cartier, Mrs. McCormick, and Mrs. Premo.

- What could be better that spending a nice fall day at an apple
orchard? That is exactly what the kindergarten students at CCS
did today. The annual trip is always well received. The
students learn about how an orchard is run and get a chance to sample
some great fruit all while enjoying some time together with parents
and friends. I received a few email messages with pictures from
the trip. Pictures

- Another batch of photos from the 4th grade trip to Camp
Overlook. This time they come from the camera of Mrs. Gratto who
has been serving as the long term substitute teacher while Mrs. Vanier
is out on maternity leave. You can see the students working at
each station learning about the environment. There was also time
for some fun and games. Thanks to Mrs. Gratto for the pics.

- 4th grade students from Mrs. Jones' and Mrs. Vanier's classes
were off to Camp Overlook today for some lessons in taking care of the
earth. They participated in a number of stations that were
designed to teach them about environmental concerns. I sent a
camera along with Joshua Trombley and he grabbed many good shots
(although since he is in a few pictures I think Mrs. Jones
helped). you can tell by the expressions on the faces of the
students that they had a great day. Pictures

- Recycling Project - Did you know that every Sunday 90% of
Americans throw away their newspapers? Believe it or not this
wastes 500,000 trees alone. Mrs. Vanier's class were guests
today in Mrs. Harrigan's high school environmental class. The
class talked to the 4th graders about recycling. They learned
the process of making paper from recycled paper. They even added
color with construction paper. Everyone had enjoyed
themselves. Have a look...pictures

- A look around the school - One of this year's web assistants took a
tour recently of the elementary wing of the school to see how things
are going so far. Judging by the smiles and excitement on the
faces of the students and staff, I think things are off to a great
start. Thanks to Christine Decker for the pictures. We
will be doing a check of elementary happenings throughout the year. Pictures
