6/20/07 - How would you like to see and hear all the music and fun from the Town Hall Concert this year presented by the Jazz Band and Half Past Seven?  Well you have the opportunity thanks to Mr. Floyd Spoor.  He recorded the event and has prepared a DVD for purchase.  The cost will be $10 and you can find out more about to obtain one by contacting him at his email address videoevents@verizon.net or by contacting him directly.  He will make them as time permits.  Thanks Mr. Spoor.

June 12, 2007 - It has become an annual tradition, and one many people look forward to.  The town hall concert in Chateaugay features the Jazz Band and Half Past Seven and a few other acts consisting of members of both groups. This year Nate Marshall sang and played a guitar, Kayla Ignaczak and Brooke McDonald performed together and Elizabeth Trombly, Ben Trombley and Mrs. Trombley performed a trumpet piece.  Congratulations to all the performers and to Miss Perya and Miss Calnon on a job well done.  Pictures (there are only a few...sorry)

May 31, 2007 - Another outstanding performance from the high school band and choral groups last night at CCS. Across the board this may have been the strongest set of performances in some time from all the groups.  I have to add that the 10th grade general music class turned in the best guitar playing performance I have seen since I have been here. Congrats to all those students and to Miss Calnon.  Goodbye to the senior members of the chorus and band.  You will all be missed.  Pictures

May 28, 2007 - Sorry this took so long but many problems came up last week and it took the talents of many people to correct the problems.  The evening performance was, once again, well done.  The elementary and junior high choral and band groups performed for friends and family on a vary hot and muggy night.  All the groups did a wonderful job.  Miss Calon, Miss Peryea and Mrs. Trombley thank all the parents for their support.  Pictures

May 16, 2007 - Although it was pouring outside, the performances were sunny a cheerful as the students in grades K-6 performed a number of songs at this morning assembly/concert.  Many parents, relatives and friends attended the event.  Each grade sang a song or two and the 4th graders performed a song using their recorders.  Great job to all the students and their teachers.  The pictures are slightly out of orders because I had to change memory cards but all grades are represented.  Pictures

March is National Music in Our Schools Month!

You may be asking yourself. What is Music In Our Schools Month?

March has been officially designated by MENC: The National Association for Music Education for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSMŽ), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. MIOSM began as a single statewide celebration in 1973, and has grown over the decades to encompass a day, then a week, and then in 1985 to become a month long celebration of school music. The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children - and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community and to display the benefits school music brings to students of all ages.

The celebration continues to grow each year, reaching more and more students, teachers, musicians, and music supporters. Schools and communities throughout the country and overseas celebrate MIOSM with concerts and other activities based on the year's theme. Classrooms, concert halls, civic buildings, clubs, parks, libraries, and shopping malls are just some of the arenas in which the public can observe the processes and results of music education. (information from www.menc.org)

The music department at CCS would like to take this time to thank all members of our community who continue to support the music program here, all of the participants of performing groups and general music classes, and our county and zone colleagues for the All-County and Area All-State festivals we attend.

Keep your eyes and ears open for the ways Chateaugay will celebrate Music In Our Schools Month!

12/21/06 -  On the road again.  The CCS Jazz Band and Half Past Seven groups hit the road Wednesday to entertain at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home.  From what I heard the food was great, as were the performances. The group also made a quick stop to see Mrs. Trombley who has been troubled by a very bad back problem.  The problem is...they ate all the doughnuts she made. Pictures 12/21/06 - Once again the acapella group "The PointerCounts" stopped by to perform a number of songs for the students at CCS.  They sang many of their traditional songs with a few new ones.  The group also worked with Half Past Seven during 10th period.  Pictures

12/13/06 - Hard to believe with the temperature over 40 degrees, but last night was the High School Winter Concert.  Once again the high school groups performed for parents, friends and family.  The jazz band performed two songs with Kayla Ignaczak on vocals.  The chorus featured Joey Bernier, Shay Mailloux, Heather Deuyour, and Taylor Gholson contributing their talents by adding instruments to Miss Calnon's keyboards.  Miss Calnon and Miss Peryea thank all who attended the performance and all who continue to support the student musicians all year long.  Have a great holiday season.  Pictures

12/7/06 - Congratulations to the Elementary and Junior High choral groups and bands for their wonderful evening concert Wednesday night.  Each group performed 3-4 pieces ranging from seasonal classics like "Frosty the Snowman" and "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" to spiritual selections and much more.  Ben Hammill was featured in the Junior Chorus playing his violin and Joey Bernier joined in with his flute.  The Elementary band students were excited to finally get through one of their toughest songs.  Mrs. Trombley, Miss Peryea and Miss Calnon thank the students for their hard work and all the parents who supported them through the year while they practiced.  Pictures - Next Wednesday night is the High School concert with the Jazz Band, Half Past Seven and 10th Grade General music class.  See you there!

Some of the Senior Select groups will be wearing a solid-colored shirt in a color other than white. Also, please note that this year, all choral groups are permitted to wear a red accessory of some kind, such as a red headband, tie, bracelet, earrings, etc., although this is not required.

Please read the following rules of concert etiquette courtesy of www.MENC.org:

  1. The audience's responsibility at formal concerts is to honor the efforts of the performers
by providing a listening atmosphere in which all can appreciate the performance. To that
    end, we ask your cooperation:
  2. While the performance is in progress, remain seated and quiet. (If it becomes necessary to leave the auditorium, please do so between musical selections.)
  3. If very young children become restless and disrupt others' ability to listen, please take them from the auditorium until they are quiet.
  4. Please do not hum or clap along with the performers, unless specifically invited to do so.
  5. Show your appreciation for the performance by clapping after each selection.
  6. Whistling and cheering are not appropriate at a formal concert.
