6/5/06
- The Group Half-Past Seven traveled to the Great Escape last
Friday. Mrs. Childs took a few pictures of the trip and a few
of her final days at CCS. Thanks. Pictures
- I have a few more pictures to add, but I left them on my
home computer. Check back soon.

6/1/06
- Ever heard "Let's Go Band"? How about hearing
it about a dozen times with nearly 200 students? That was my
day. The annual "Battle of the Bands" was held this
morning at CCS with students from nearby schools playing for their
peers. The concert is performed by the elementary bands from
the neighboring schools. They combine to form a large band and
play the aforementioned "Let's Go Band". Thanks to
John Kelly for taking the pictures for the website.
Enjoy. Pictures

5/18/06 - The
last note barely finished playing before the crowd was on their
feet. The combined chorus and
senior band put a cap on an amazing night of music. Mrs.
Childs was recognized for her accomplishments by the choir, Miss
Peryea and Mr. Breault. There were many great band solos,
Jesse Sorrell blew everyone away with his solo performance
and...there was just so much good stuff I don't where to quit.
Congratulations to all the performers and their directors. And
a special thanks to Mrs. Childs. She will be missed. Pictures

- Another great show by the Elementary band and chorus groups
Thursday night. Many students were featured in a number of
solo performances and all groups sang and played beautifully. Once
again we are all very proud of the efforts of the students and their
teachers. It was also a bitter sweet night for Mrs.
Childs. This is her last elementary concert. As many of
you know she will be leaving at the end of this year and we wish her
the best of luck in the future. We also wish her the best with
her new child expected within the next few weeks. She will be
missed by all. Pictures

Music In Our Schools
Month
|
|
As some of you may already be aware, the month of March is
"Music In Our Schools" month. This is a great time for all
of us at CCS to reflect upon how music can affect education not only
in the music classroom itself, but also within the other classrooms
and various school activities as well!
This year we would like our school to participate in a few
activities that can challenge everyone's musical minds.
• One activity will be a game called "Name that
Tune" At least once a week in the month of March we will
play about a twenty-second clip of a musical selection from a
particular style or time period for everyone to try and guess
what tune they hear and who is the composer of that tune. The
name of the person who guesses the correct tune will be
announced at the end of each week.
• Another fun event is our "Who's Who Among CCS
Teachers" challenge. Posted on the bulletin board in the
hallway just outside the main office will be Musical Inventories
completed by various teachers and faculty members. Can you guess
which teacher belongs to which inventory?
• We are also holding a poster contest for students in grades
2-12.
Students who wish to participate must create a poster to
display one of the following three areas:
1-How music has influenced your life in a positive way, and why
is so important to you.
2-How music has influenced the life of a person you know in a
positive way.
3- How/why music plays a positive roll in education.
Students are encouraged to use various artistic materials such
as, paints, chalk, markers, crayons, colored pencils, even picture
cutouts from magazines.
All students must use a sheet of poster-board that can be found
at any Dollar store, K-Mart, Alix True Value, or even Kinney
Drugs or Eckerd. If you are unable to purchase
poster-board for the activity please see Mr. Collins or Mrs. Childs
(we only have colored poster board available).
The Judges of the contest will be Mr. Collins, Mrs. Henderson,
Mrs. Hill, and Mr. Trombley.
There will be several prizes to give out such as, gift
certificates for free pizza, taco's and ice cream, free movie
rentals, and even a free half hour massage.
Also, posters will be displayed in the school hallways and
pictures will be placed on the school website.
Posters must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Childs to be
displayed by March 22nd.

Elementary Sing-A-Long
|
|
12/22/05
- One of the highlights of the Holiday Season is the annual
Elementary Sing-A-Long Concert. Each grade from K-6 performs
at least one traditional holiday son and the 5th grade band students
perform for the 1st time. It was a packed auditorium full of
friends and family. Many of the students were decked out in
their best seasonal attire. It was another classic CCS moment.
Happy Holidays to all. .pictures

Your hard work has finally paid off. I am so proud of you! I can't
wait to begin our new music. *
If anyone is interested in becoming a member of either Elementary or
Jr. Chorus please see me soon and I will give you a chorus contract.
We would love to have you. (On a side note, we especially need
boys!) I
would like to express my sincere thanks to all the parents,
students, teachers and community members who helped out with
Wednesday night's performance. Without all of you the program would
not have come together the way it did. A
special thanks to... Edith Lapardo for making costumes, David
Matthews for the sleigh, David Gardiner for the cardboard car, Lisa
Whyte for making costumes, The Burke United Methodist Church for
lending costumes, Trudy LaTour for lending costumes and helping

Winter Concerts
|
|
12/7/05 -
This
year's Christmas concert featured a mini-musical performance by the
elementary chorus along
with stellar performances from the Elementary Band, Junior Band and
Junior Chorus. Mrs. Trombley, Ms. Peryea and Mrs. Childs are all
very proud of the students and their hard work. The song selections
ranged from familiar seasonal tunes to fun titles and performances
like "The Twelve Groovy Days of Christmas", "Dance of
the Slippery Trombones" and "Yakety Sax". For
many the highlight was the musical performance of "All American
Christmas, a Holiday Spectacular". Their efforts resulted
in a standing ovation from the capacity crowd at the CCS
auditorium. Congratulations to all the students, their
teachers and thanks to all who helped make the program a
success. Also thank you to Mr. Breault who pitched in with a
few pictures from the event. If you have any to share, please
send them in. Pictures

12/6/05
- Every musical group gave a brief performance this morning in
preparation for the coming night concerts. The CCS music
department was on display today as each group sang or played one or
two selection they have prepared in anticipation for the night
concerts. There is even an unusual twist on the elementary
concert. Instead of singing a number of songs, the group will
present a mini-holiday themed musical. The Evening
performances are set for Wednesday December 7 at 7:00 PM for
elementary and junior high groups and December 14 at 7:00 PM for
high school groups. Here are is a sneak peak form the morning
assembly. PICTURES

Notes from Mrs. Childs
|
|
Congratulations to Kayla
Ignaczak, Courtney Trainer, Shay Mailloux, Brooke McDonald and
Joseph Bernier for their hard work and dedication at the 2005 Area
All State music festival over the weekend. Their many hours of
rehearsals were certainly worth it after putting on a spectacular
performance Saturday afternoon. A special congratulations should
also be extended to Kayla for receiving a small group solo over
dozens of young ladies. CCS is proud of you all!
A reminder to all 5th and 6th grade chorus members, our performance
is approaching us quickly!
There will be a rehearsal on Wednesday November 30th from 2:30-3:30
for a full run through of "All American Christmas" If
possible I would like to have all costumes and props at this time.
Also, there will be a full dress rehearsal on Monday evening
December 5th, from 6-8pm. This will most likely be the only time we
will be able to do the full run through with costumes, props, and
technology. It is very important that all students attend this
rehearsal. Any parents who are willing to help get students into
costumes and set up the stage are welcome to come this evening to
participate. I appreciate all the help and support you have given.
The program would not be running as smoothly as it has if it were
not for all of your help and support.

"All
American Christmas Musical"
|
|
10/14/05
- To
the Parents/Guardians of all 5th and 6th grade
Chorus Members,
There will be auditions for speaking parts in the "All American
Christmas Musical" on Wednesday,
October 19th, during the double dismissal hour of 2:30 -3:20. All
students who are interested in a speaking role for the musical
should be there.
I would like to encourage all of you to help your child/children to
practice any speaking part they may be interested in. I am looking
for students to project with volume, speak with confidence, fluency,
and a clear voice. The student does not need to have the part
memorized at this time but should the student receive a speaking
part, I would like to have he/she memorize their line(s) as soon as
possible. Unfortunately, I cannot promise that every child will
receive a speaking part because of the numerous amounts of students
that are interested.
If your child has a conflict on the date and time of the audition,
please call me at school (497-6611 ext. 282) or send a note in with
your child as soon as possible so I can make arrangements for
him/her to come in at another time. I would prefer not to do this,
but I will in extreme circumstances. I would like to thank you for
your time and effort. I know with your assistance this event will be
a success.
Sincerely, Mrs. Childs

Fifth and Sixth Grade Chorus
I am very excited to say that it was recently decided that for this
years Elementary/Junior High Winter Concert, the fifth and sixth
grade chorus will be performing a thirty-minute musical called
"All American Christmas".
I realize that during the Holiday Season there is often a lot going
on and it can be a stressful time of year; however, I am requesting
for some parent and/or community involvement to help make this
program successful.
I am looking for anyone who would be willing to search for costumes
and props for fifth and sixth grade chorus members to borrow for the
purpose of this performance. Costumes are needed for the following
characters: Pilgrims, Native Americans, Uncle Sam, Statue of
Liberty, Angels, 3 Kings, Mary, Joseph, A patriotic Santa, Square
dancers (old fashioned westerners) George Washington, Betsy Ross,
and costumes suitable for the late 1800s. We do not have to have all
these costumes but these are some ideas that are listed in the
script. Not all children need to wear costumes some may wear modem
day festive clothing.
There are many speaking parts and narrations in the musical, which
any student who is willing to memorize a few lines is welcome to try
for. I will soon send home a copy of the available speaking parts
with your children if they are willing to audition for a speaking
part. I am requesting that you help your child memorize a part that
is suitable for them and help them to work on areas such as speaking
with volume and expression. That is very important in a performance
such as this.
If anyone would be willing to help out in any of these areas or with
the performance in general, I would greatly appreciate it! I am
hoping to keep rehearsals during the regular chorus rehearsal time
each week; however, toward performance time I may schedule a few
after school or evening rehearsals and a dress rehearsal. If that is
needed, I will inform you all in advance. Thanks!
