The
following rules have been instituted regarding visits to
the nurse's office:
A) Except in an emergency, students will have a
pass from their classroom teacher. Do not arrive
between classes.
B) It is highly discouraged for students to make
arrangements for early dismissal due to illness without
first being evaluated by the school nurse. Do not
use the payphone to call home to be excused because of
illness.
C) Students requiring medication during school
hours must have on file a written request form signed by
both parents and the prescribing physician. Forms
are available in the nurse's office. No medication
(prescription or over the counter) will be given without
this permission form on file. Students are also
reminded that all medication is to be kept in the
nurse's office and that under only certain circumstances
should a student take medication without supervision. |
Over
the years we find that much of the information contained
on our permanent health records become outdated. A
student's health and medical history enables us to be
aware of each student's needs. Updated health
information as well as present address, phone number,
and person to contact is a parent is unavailable is very
important.
If there has been any change in your child's health
status recently (such as broken bones, hospitalizations,
illnesses, surgeries, change in medication, etc.) or if
there has been a change of phone number or person to
call if parents are unavailable, please inform either of
the school nurses as soon as possible. Help us to
serve your child's health needs.

In order for your child to be
available for learning and to control communicable disease in school, it is
very important to keep your child at home for the following reasons:
-
Your child has a temperature of 100
degrees or more. Your child should remain at home in bed and should be
fever free (without Tylenol) for 24 hours before returning to school as
many children rebound with a temperature.
-
Your child has been
diagnosed with a Strep infection. Your child should be on an antibiotic
for 24 hours before returning to school.
-
Your child has
vomited during the night.
-
Your
child has had persistent diarrhea during the night into the morning.
-
Your child has a
moist, productive cough, chest congestion, or discolored nasal
discharge.
-
Your child has red
swollen eyes that itch and are draining puss.
-
Your child has live
lice or nits present in scalp or on hair.
-
If
your child has an unusual rash or it is associated with a fever, contact
your doctor. Keep your child home from school until you have discussed the rash with your
doctor.
-
If your child has
been diagnosed with a communicable illness, ask the doctor when your
child may return to school and if possible, supply a note from your
doctor.
